For the Patron’s Day

Having already written a small piece on St. Matthias (see link below), I’m at somewhat of a loss as what to write about this holy Apostle that we know so little about. On the one hand, I want to show my patron honor on this special day. On the other hand, I think that this quiet light among Jesus’ followers would appreciate fewer words, less fanfare. Isn’t that the way he lived?

Though he followed our Lord from the very beginning according to St. Peter in Acts (1:21-22), Matthias was not chosen to be one of the Twelve. He was not mentioned in any of the Gospels, and was never spoken of after being given the Apostolic nod. Regardless of this invisibility, the Holy Spirit made Matthias the 13th apostle chosen.

As a Matthiast, I strive to be an effective witness to Jesus, without calling a lot of attention to myself. I am involved in several ministries behind the scenes, and provide support to others anonymously.

Enough words. It is time to return to the unacknowledged way of my patron. I hope to be as softly spiritual as he was, leaving in my wake only the love of my Lord for people to remember me by.

St. Matthias, please pray for me.

    Nice.
It reminds me of Pope Leo’s words to the Cardinals… “move aside so that only Jesus remains…”
