On this solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, I’d like to recall, in the spirit of Matthias, someone well-known and anonymous. Though not a part of today’s scripture readings, Paul and Silas’ jailer at Phillipi, was nearly lost to life, and then found eternal life when the Master of the Universe moved the earth for an early release of the two imprisoned evangelizers
Suffering from a lighter than air literary sense, I seldom take on the weightier issues for fear of being punched by my own punchlines. In spite of this trepidation, at the behest of the 3rd person of the subject of this scratching, here is my encounter with the 3 in 1, hoping that I won’t have to pay thrice in eternity.
I have a little arrangement with the Trinity. They propose; I say nos. I am trying to be less trying to the eye in the sky, but I’m a hard nut who’s cracked
Here’s the favorite whipping boy of the new covenant, who checked out scripturally before anyone could apply Jesus’ enemy loving philosophy to him. So can we, in good conscience still continue the whipping?
This is an unedited excerpt from a journal I wrote while on retreat in November 2013. It is an example of how being removed from the material distractions made me look at what props me up from day to day.
In our imperfection God wants us to come to Him, to believe in Him, to interact with Him, and ultimately to allow the transforming power of His love to make us what were meant to be.
Information
Welcome to the Matthiast blog, honoring St. Matthias. This man, an apostolic blip in the salvation narrative, followed Jesus from the beginning, was never mentioned in the Gospels, chosen by lot in the Acts of the Apostles, then vanished, literarily, that is. Here we celebrate the spirit of this virtually invisible servant of Our Lord, and hope to be as faithfully selfless as he was.

I pray to recognize the Father in His Son… I will as long as I am empowered by the Holy Spirit and think of Jesus as he is meant to be known… and not conformed to me preferences or inaccurate ideas of Jesus.
Then I pray to recognize Jesus in myself that I may recognize him in every other person and reflected in every creature… as he really is and not as I would prefer him to be…
